Description

Silt soils, which are made up of intermediate particles, are well-drained and fertile and have more than sandy soils but are easily compacted. Pure silt soils do not exist frequently, especially in gardens. They possess a slight,  soapy, slippery consistency and are not prone to clumping. Finely compacted soil by garden machinery is fertile but prone to water and wind erosion. They contain more nutrients and higher water-holding capacity, and they settle when organic matter is added.
