Anthurium, commonly known as Flamingo flowers, leaves, or painter's palettes, is a beautiful tropical plant praised for its bright, heart-shaped leaves and long-lasting, vibrant flowers. A native of Central and South America, this plant is popular among indoor gardeners due to its distinctive appearance and relatively easy care requirements. Anthurium is famous for its eye-catching, momi flowers, which are modified leaves called spaths. These spaths come in a variety of colours, such as red, pink, white, purple, and even green, around a central yellow or white spike, known as spadics, with small flowers. The rich, deep-green leaves of the plant add a refreshing, tropical stretch to any house or office.

Care Instructions

Light:

Place your Anthurium in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
If your plant isn't flowering, it may need more light. However, excessive light can lead to sunburn, so monitor its exposure carefully.

Temperature:

Keep the temperature consistently between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid exposing your Anthurium to sudden temperature drops.
Protect the plant from drafts, as they can stress the plant and lead to leaf damage.

Humidity:

Anthuriums thrive in high-humidity environments. Aim for humidity levels between 60% and 80%.
Use a humidity tray or a room humidifier to increase humidity, especially in drier indoor spaces.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of the soil to dry out slightly before watering.
Water thoroughly, and ensure that excess water drains out of the pot. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, which can lead to root rot.

Fertilizing:

Feed your Anthurium every 6-8 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.
Reduce or stop fertilization during the plant's dormant period in the fall and winter.
